Question from Arizona, USA:

My daughter typically drops at least 67 mg/dl [3.7 mmol/L] at night on 0.5 unit of Levemir at dinnertime. Therefore, she needs to go to bed around 180 mg/dl [10.0 mmol/L] to 200 mg/dl [11.1 mmol/L]. Isn’t it possible that right now, three weeks after diagnosis, she just does not need a basal insulin?

Answer:

I actually would favor basal insulin over a bolus. Just be sure to give her a snack at bedtime.
