Report from Saturday
Saturday was the last full day of the conference and included a bit of everything. There was an early morning Diaversary and Birthday Celebration for Tweens sponsored by Logan Merwin (this T1 tween fundraised specifically for this event – ice cream first thing in the morning - well done!). Board Members Stewart Perry and George Huntley presented an Advocacy Keynote on Affordable Access to Insulin later in the morning. The panel discussion on “Being a Couple and Making it Work” was a great opportunity for adults with T1 and their significant others to share stories and support. The Parents and Teens discussion was packed with teens, parents, and great ideas. And – finally – Sports Central was open for the morning and early afternoon.
Saturday’s Social meet ups included a Mom’s morning walk around the lake, MOFFLs and Waffles, Moms and Margaritas, a Dads and Suds Happy Hour, and a Dual Home Families Meet up.
At the ‘front of house,’ CWD volunteers were busy with tear-down and move-out of the registration area, and Julia Mattingly and team were boxing up materials for Falls Church 2019, Indianapolis 2020, and Orlando 2020.
Saturday evening featured three great parties, with DJ Miles and his team providing the dance music for each. The Family Fun Night, sponsored by Medtronic, was a Beach Party, and everyone was encouraged to dress for the beach! This party drew nearly 500 people, and was so much fun! The Tween social was a Safari-themed, while the Teen event was a Black Light Dance Party, complete with loads of glowing party favors. Thanks to all of the CWD age group staff who volunteered to spend Saturday evening chaperoning these parties and visiting with the kids and families. There were many positive comments, and everyone appreciated your extra time and energy.
