Participating in Virtual Events
Are you participating in a virtual CWD event for the first time? Do you have questions about setting up Zoom, or visiting the virtual exhibit hall, or how to connect with your Fiffles (aka "friends for life")? See below for details!
Zoom Details
Zoom Audio and Video
To participate in Friends for Life Spring Refuel 2021, you will use the Zoom app. You must use computer audio and video for sessions that require it. Calling into sessions using your phone is not supported. This is to ensure the security and integrity of the conference.
Zoom Meetings and the Importance of Video and Audio
For sessions that are run as a Zoom Meeting, attendees must enter with the video and audio on to be let into the session. Each session is clearly indicated as a Meeting or Webinar in its session description on the Live Page. Please take note of the session before clicking the Join button. This is really important for the integrity of the session. If you’re not comfortable sharing your video, choose a session that is being run as a Zoom Webinar instead.
Make Your Zoom Name Count
To help everyone recognize fellow FFLers as they join discussions in the virtual hallways and sessions, we’re asking everyone to set their Zoom name as shown below. If you’re unsure how to change your Zoom name, see this PDF.
Adults: First Name – State or Country – Years of T1D for yourself or partner
Examples:
Jasmine – FL – T1D 15 yrs
Carlos – FL – Partner 15 yrs
Adults with T1D who also have kids with T1D: First Name – State or Country – Years for Self / Age of Child
Examples:
Omar – NY – T1D 25 yrs – Parent 8 yo
Rashida – NY – Partner 25 yrs – Parent 8 yo
Parents: First Name – State or Country – Age of Child with T1D
Examples:
Sebastian– Canada – Parent 33 yo
Maria – CA – Parent 9 yo
Youth: First Name – Age Group – Green (T1D) or Orange (Sibling or Child)
Examples:
Zoe – Teen - Orange
Elliot – Tween – Green
Victor– Elementary – Orange
Paxton – Kiddie Kove – Green
Tween Age Group Only: Ages 9-12
To help with breakout rooms, the Tween Program Leaders have asked that tweens include their age in the name.
Examples:
Kameron – Tween 9 – Green
Ananta - Tween 12 - Orange
Youth age group ages are teen (13-17), tween (9-12), elementary (6-8), and Kiddie Kove (0-5). It’s REALLY IMPORTANT for youth to identify Green and Orange to support breakout room discussions.
Zoom Backgrounds
If your computer or device supports virtual Zoom backgrounds, we have several that you can use to help share your connection to diabetes. Download them here:
Notes for Parents
Parents, we understand how important it is to provide a safe environment for youth program sessions. We’ve been helped by members of our dedicated FFL Support Team to ensure that our Zoom sessions are configured for maximum safety. Members of the FFL Support Team will help to oversee all youth sessions and will step in if needed.
Parents, you are also welcome to attend sessions in Kiddie Kove, Elementary, and Tween. We do ask that you allow your teens to participate in their sessions on their own.

Rules of the Road -- FFL Spring Refuel Code of Conduct
We urge you to take a moment to read "The Rules of the Road,” found here. Every adult and child who participates in any session of this virtual FFL Conference agrees to abide by these "Rules of the Road," which essentially serve as the Code of Conduct for this conference. These rules were carefully drafted to keep everyone safe, and we suggest you and your children review them prior to the start of FFL Spring Refuel.
Be sure to visit the Virtual Exhibition Hall and Virtual Booths!
This year, in response to COVID-19, our generous sponsors and partners have really upped their digital game, working with the CWD team to create a Virtual Exhibit Hall where event attendees can visit with sponsors, get the most current diabetes industry information, and even have some fun. We’re proud to be bringing our Exhibit Hall to our virtual Friends for Life events - please be sure to visit with sponsors, say hello, and learn!
