I know no other life outside of a diabetic one – I was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetes at two years old and grew up not paying adequate attention to the needs of my body and my disease. 25 years later, when I moved away from home, I began my understanding of diabetes with a phenomenal endocrinologist (Rebecca Mattison). I was introduced to the new world of insulin pumps and sensors which changed my life for the better with more awareness and more control. Next, I concentrated on modifying my diet and became passionate about making meals/recipes that were tasty, fulfilling, and not heavy in carbohydrates. They weren’t all great, but you can’t succeed without a healthy amount of trial and error. Life goes on. I will proudly display this 50 year milestone of living with diabetes.
