For the past six years and after my periods stopped suddenly at age 38, I thought I was having hot flashes which were induced by eating carbs. I noticed that when I ate a high protein, low carb, no sugar diet I did not have the sweating, heart palpitations and shortness of breath. Since diabetes runs in my family, could I possibly be having symptoms of impaired glucose functioning/pre-diabetes?

My two and a half year old has been waking up with high blood sugars. She is pre-clinical without the autoantibodies and is being monitored at home due to occasional high readings. Up to a year ago, he was over weight, but now he is on thin side. Could he have type 1B or type 2 diabetes? Do you feel a total of 3.5 units a day is a very small amount for a 63 pound child?

I have noticed that my 11 year old daughter will become emotional and distraught late in the afternoon. This awful, terrible world she was living in before supper mysteriously disappears after supper. Now we suspect hypoglycemia.

My daughter has an inherited metabolic condition that diabetes is quite common in and has just started on a very small dose of insulin. Her doctors are still uncertain as to the type of diabetes she has and have even considered the possibility that her high blood glucose may be a result of a virus in her pancreas. I have several questions.
