Diagnosis and Symptoms

When my mom noticed I was drinking so much, she thought it might be diabetes, but as soon as she said that, she took it back (saying she was wrong, and that I didn’t have it). Now I’m a little worried, and I don’t want to go to my doctor unless I have reason to believe I have diabetes.

My son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes six weeks ago and now requires 1.5 units of NPH after breakfast and nothing after dinner. Is it possible that my son might have type 1B diabetes? If he is type 1B, what is the treatment? Are there any illnesses whatsoever, that have been found to indicate the onset of diabetes without real diabetes?

My 35 year old husband recently had a four-hour glucose tolerance test to look for hypoglycemia which was negative. However, he has all the symptoms, and has had them since childhood. We recently were able to test his glucose level at home during an episode and it was 54 mg/dl [3 mmol/L]. Is there another type of test we should request?

My eight year old daughter has Autoimmune Polyglandular Syndrome Type II and also has significant neurological involvement (mental retardation, seizures), and I am wondering if her GAD antibody results(0.67) were high enough to cause neurological impairment as well as impending diabetes. Is my daughter’s GAD antibody level mild, moderate, or high?

My friend’s three and a half year old boy is very big for his age, and a doctor said he was not properly processing insulin. He had several tests taken, all of which were normal, but this doctor indicated that he would probably develop diabetes later in life. Does this diagnosis sound familiar? If so, is there anything that can be done to protect him against diabetes?
