Diagnosis and Symptoms

I’m a 27 year old female who has had Hodgkin’s Disease IIIB for 12 years and is being treated with chemotherapy and radiation. I have not been diagnosed with diabetes, and have no family history. I have normal fasting blood sugars (80-90 mg/dl [4.4 to 5])mmol/L] range, and an A1c of 4.4%. However, my two-hour postprandial blood sugars range from 154-208 mg/dl [8.6-11.6 mmol/L]. Is there cause for alarm?

I have had diabetes for at least 14 years, was on insulin in the past and recently was trying to control it with oral medications, but my A1c was 13%, and I am back on insulin. My most C-peptide was 3.5. I have always been under the impression I had type 2 yet, based on this recent blood work, my doctor says that I have type 1. How is that possible with a C-peptide in the normal range?

When I eat the smallest amount of candy, my sugar drops to 50-60 mg/dl [2.8-3.3 mmol/L] level in a 5-10 minute period, and I am also experiencing shaking and confusion. This is really scary! I had a glucose test done and my sugar went from 350 mg/dl [19.4 mmol/L] to 40 mg/dl [2.2 mmol/L] in 30 minutes. Could you please explain this?

My eight year old son who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes about four months ago with a fasting blood sugar of 198 mg/dl [11mmol/L], some ketones, but negative antibodies. Now, his endocrinologist suspects that he in fact has type 2 because of the slow and steady pattern of decrease in insulin requirements. How do you generally differentiate type 1 in the honeymoon phase from type 2 after some insulin treatment?
