I have two cousins who married sisters. Each has one son, and both sons have just recently been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. None can find a relative who has diabetes on either side of the family. Could there be a connection here?.

My three year old daughter recently had a high fever and lethargy. Her urine dipstick showed no infection, but she had a large amount of glucose and ketones. Her workup was complete, and the results were normal. Where do we go from here? At age three, shouldn’t her body be able to compensate for a viral infection and not spill urine glucose?

I have been told that my 11 year old son is going to have diabetes. He is overweight, has a fatty liver, and he also has dark skin. He sweats a lot even when he is sleeping with no blankets on and is very clammy a lot too. We do have a family history of diabetes, and I am very concerned about my son. Can any of these symptoms mean diabetes for him?

My 26 month old son has had on and off symptoms of diabetes for the past two to three months. He has excessive thirst, and I’ve noticed he urinates almost every 30 minutes. He had some high blood sugars and urine ketones intermittently. I’ve been told by a friend he may have pre-diabetes. Why would he show urine ketones and high sugar if he is growing and eating?

At age 34, I was diagnosed with PCOS, and since I have a strong family history the doctor thought I should be tested for diabetes. I was told I have type 2 diabetes on the basis of an oral glucose test, but I found this does not meet the criteria for diagnosis Could the doctor have made the diagnosis based on some other factor? Could I have been misdiagnosed?

I was told that since my father has been diagnosed with hypoglycemia, he has a greater chance of developing diabetes. Is there anything to your knowledge that can support this statement to be true? If the answer is yes, should he be testing his blood sugar often?

My a nine and a half year old son was diagnosed with hypoglycemia a couple of years ago which was maintained well with a regular snack schedule and glucose monitoring, but a few months ago, he developed impaired glucose tolerance. This is extremely hard to control because my son also is underweight, has ADHD, and takes Adderall and Remeron to improve appetite and sleep patterns. I have found very little information on this condition in children. We are still in a wait and see stage, what else would you suggest?
