Diagnosis and Symptoms

Four months ago, my 10 year old daughter was told she had type 1 diabetes after a positive glucose tolerance test, but when they did a specific test to check for type 1, it was not detectable. Now, her doctor has said that perhaps my daughter does not have type 1, and she wants her to stop her insulin to see how she does.

I am a 33 year old female just diagnosed with gastroparesis, and I do not have diabetes as far as I know. Reglan has been prescribed as the treatment. My gastroenterologist has ordered an HbA1c test, and said that gastroparesis is most common in people with diabetes. Would a HbA1c be the best test to check for diabetes?

My eight year old son was identified as being high risk for developing diabetes through the DPT-1. Occasionally, he seems to drink a lot, is moody, and often is tired. He has had no weight loss, yet no gain for a while. We check his blood sugars occasionally when he shows these symptoms, and he has had two high readings (219 mg/dl [12.2 mmol/L] and 152 mg/dl [8.4 mmol/L], two hours after a meal). At what point, should I consider a diagnosis of diabetes? Do we wait until he has more overt symptoms?

I am a 27 year old female who was diagnosed with hypoglycemia about three years ago. I test my glucose level when I am feeling symptoms and most always am in the 70s mg/dl [3.9 mmol/L], but recently I had a reading of 221 mg/dl [12.3 mmol/L] 30 minutes after eating. Should I be concerned?

My 13 year old daughter, who has many allergies and is on several different medications, had a fasting blood sugar of 123 mg/dl [6.8 mmol/L] and an A1c of 6.6%. Could her medications or the onset of puberty (she only had one period for the first time one month ago) be partly responsible or does she have diabetes?

Our 13 year old had a routine urine test which showed ketones and glucose, his A1c was 11.4%, and he had a high level of antibodies. The doctors say this an indication of diabetes, but there is some question as to whether or not to start him on insulin yet. He has none of the symptoms, but his fasting blood sugars are between 8 and 11 mmol/L [144 and 198 mg/dl]. How do we know the best way of dealing with this?
