Diagnosis and Symptoms

My daughter has been having many episodes of low sugar (2.4- 6.1 mmol/L [43-100 mg/dl]). We have been giving her lots of sweets and juice as she balks at fruit. We have an appointment with an endocrinologist and wonder what kind of test we should be prepared for.

My 11 old daughter developed brown colored skin under both armpits which the dermatologist said is associated with people who have diabetes, but she has no symptoms of diabetes. However, three or four times, she was pale when she woke up with pale face, and was sweaty and hungry. Does this sound like diabetes? How do we test for it?

My son has had an increase in his thirst over the last two weeks. My husband has type 2. My son’s meter readings have been 192, 292 before breakfast, and 247 before lunch. I called his pediatrician. His A1C was 4.4, his random glucose was 76 mg/dl. She has been consulting with a endocrinologist but they haven’t given us any reasons for his high fingerstick readings. Any ideas?

My two year old son Max had been suddenly been drinking tons of fluid, urinating all the time and showing extreme irritability. Max was given a blood glucose and urine glucose test at the pediatrician’s office. Urine was negative, blood glucose was 184 mg/dl [10.2 mmol/l]. His A1c was normal. He has only been symptomatic for about two weeks. Would that account for the normal A1c?

I am 40 years old, have had three fasting blood sugars 115 mg/dl [6.4 mmol/L], 119 mg/dl [6.6 mmol/L], and 114 mg/dl [6.3 mmol/L] respectively over the past two years, and my most recent A1c was 5.3%. I was told by my doctor that there is nothing to worry about, but he gave me no sense that I should consider my blood sugar high. I thought anything over 110 mg/dl [6.1 mmol/L] was considered “abnormal.” Should I be following up on this or am I considered “normal”?
