Diagnosis and Symptoms

I am trying to get a definitive answer as to whether my daughter has type 1 or type 2 diabetes. During the most recent conversation I had with my daughter’s endocrinologist, he stated that she was still producing insulin (about 2% of her needs). How can she be identified as having type 1 diabetes, if nearly three years later, she is still producing insulin?

My son has diabetes, and last night, my husband and I noticed that our daughter has been thirsty a lot. So, I tested her blood sugar about an hour after dinner, and it was 175 mg/dl [9.7 mmol/L]. We tested her this morning and it was 102 mg/dl [5.7 mmol/L] fasting and 100 mg/dl [5.6 mmol/L] two hours after her breakfast. Is that normal?

I have had type 1 diabetes for seven years, and, about six months ago, I was experiencing symptoms like menopause, and after testing, the doctors found I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, but no one can seem to understand how I have type 1 diabetes and PCOS. They decided to check for GAD antibodies, and the level was 5.3. Any input?

My daughter has been having many episodes of low sugar (2.4- 6.1 mmol/L [43-100 mg/dl]). We have been giving her lots of sweets and juice as she balks at fruit. We have an appointment with an endocrinologist and wonder what kind of test we should be prepared for.

Could any of the drugs I take cause my blood sugar to rise? Could the low carb diet have caused this?

My 11 old daughter developed brown colored skin under both armpits which the dermatologist said is associated with people who have diabetes, but she has no symptoms of diabetes. However, three or four times, she was pale when she woke up with pale face, and was sweaty and hungry. Does this sound like diabetes? How do we test for it?

My son has had an increase in his thirst over the last two weeks. My husband has type 2. My son’s meter readings have been 192, 292 before breakfast, and 247 before lunch. I called his pediatrician. His A1C was 4.4, his random glucose was 76 mg/dl. She has been consulting with a endocrinologist but they haven’t given us any reasons for his high fingerstick readings. Any ideas?

My two year old son Max had been suddenly been drinking tons of fluid, urinating all the time and showing extreme irritability. Max was given a blood glucose and urine glucose test at the pediatrician’s office. Urine was negative, blood glucose was 184 mg/dl [10.2 mmol/l]. His A1c was normal. He has only been symptomatic for about two weeks. Would that account for the normal A1c?

I am 40 years old, have had three fasting blood sugars 115 mg/dl [6.4 mmol/L], 119 mg/dl [6.6 mmol/L], and 114 mg/dl [6.3 mmol/L] respectively over the past two years, and my most recent A1c was 5.3%. I was told by my doctor that there is nothing to worry about, but he gave me no sense that I should consider my blood sugar high. I thought anything over 110 mg/dl [6.1 mmol/L] was considered “abnormal.” Should I be following up on this or am I considered “normal”?
