Diagnosis and Symptoms

I have a three and a half year son with diabetes, and we test each other. My overnight fasting glucose is 100-110 mg/dl [5.6-6.1 mmol/L]. While searching your site, I found a recommendation you made to a lady with gestational diabetes that a morning blood sugar should be under 90 mg/dl [5 mmol/L]. Is that for all people?

I am thirsty a lot so I drink lots of water (12 16-ounce bottles per day or more), and I urinate a lot as well which I have attributed that to the amount of water that I drink. Recently, two urine tests showed that my urine was diluted. Could this indicate to me that I possibly could have diabetes?

Recent visits to new endocrinologist made me concerned that perhaps I do not have type 1 diabetes and do not need to be on insulin. I did test positive for the GAD antibody. Do you think it is possible that I could go on an oral medication? Can you please explain the relationships between PCOS and diabetes?

There is a strong history of diabetes in our family, and I have hypoglycemia so my two year old son recently had his blood sugar tested which was 70 mg/dl [3.9 mmol/L]. While I understand that this is within the normal range, he exhibits three signs of diabetes — slow growth, excessive thirst, and a craving for sugary foods. Might there be a possibility that he could have diabetes regardless of what the blood test showed?

During a glucose tolerance test, my sugar levels were 103 mg/dl [5.7 mmol/L], 245 mg/dl [13.6 mmol/L], 230 mg/dl [12.8 mmol/L], and 130 mg/dl [7.2 mmol/L]. Ten minutes later, I crashed to 34 mg/dl [1.9 mmol/L]. Within two hours after eating, I crash so hard I feel as though I am dying. My doctors are confused. Please give me some insight.

At the age of 1, I had my daughter’s pediatrician test her for diabetes (she is now 16 months). The reason for the request is that I am a diabetic and my pregnancy was a very long and difficult one with high blood sugars.

We suspect our seven year old may have diabetes. She had a 3 hour glucose tolerance test (GTT). She was placed on a “diabetic diet” for two weeks. Then, we are to return for a follow up visit. I am not very comfortable with the way this is being handled. I need help and reassurance that this treated properly. There is a long family history of diabetes, and I have seen how dangerous this can be.
