Diagnosis and Symptoms

My six year old daughter was born premature, but I have been able to keep her on in the tenth percentile. However, in the last month and a half, she has fallen off the charts again in height and weight, has been non-stop sick, she has been bedwetting, and is constantly thirsty and/or hungry. Could she possibly have diabetes?

The doctors have all told me my daughter has diabetes, caught so early that she is showing no symptoms (except excessive thirst and urination). An urgent care visit for a high fever brought up this fact and the staff there looked at me like I was crazy when I mentioned this to them. Now I am doubting myself and the fact that she has this disease.

My husband has had type 1 diabetes since age seven, and recently our two and half year old has had some high sugars during an illness. I feel it would be helpful to have her tested for the antibodies and the genetic markers as well as fasting plasma glucose and/or glucose tolerance. Our four and a half year old son has an abnormal EEG yet he does not present a typical seizure pattern, and he has moments of unexplained rage. During two hospital stays, an 84 year old had two elevated fasting blood sugars. She is several medications including HCTZ (12.5 mg every other day) which (so I have read) can raise glucose levels. If she stops the HCTZ, is it reasonable that we see a decrease in blood sugars or has some process been set into motion which cannot be stopped?

I have hypoglycemia and for the last month or so, my blood sugars are constantly out of control. Additionally, food just seems to sit in my stomach for extended hours. If I don’t eat I’m fine, but not eating causes my blood sugar to drop to 50 mg/dl [2.8 mmol/L], and then I pass out. Someone suggested that I may be insulin resistant until the food in my stomach gets to the liver.
