My three year old daughter has just begun pump therapy, and her pediatric endocrinologist wants her to be on U-50 NovoLog, but the manufacturer has not done any studies on mixing U-100 NovoLog with any of their three diluents and is hesitant to recommend any of them. I was told that the Lantus insulin that my son was put on is not lasting 24 hours like they thought it would. I tried giving it in the morning, but by the next morning, his blood sugar would be high. Now I’m trying to give the Lantus at 6:00 pm, and he has been waking up too low. Is there any other time of the day I should try to give this shot or what else should I do?

We carb count carefully and closely monitor her blood sugars (six to eight readings per day), but her blood sugars are extremely erratic, and we cannot figure out what is going on. Do many endocrinologists recommend the pump for such a young child? Would pumping keep her blood sugars in better control ?
