Insulin Pumps

My three year old son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes several months ago. As his honeymoon phases has diminished, insulin just seems to run right through him. Could part of my problem be from using two different brands of insulin? I am very interested in trying pump therapy as soon as possible. How can I find another diabetes team that would support me on this?

Do you have an opinion on relying on this option in the pump?

In your view, is the update worth the money?

My son has been using an insulin pump with Humalog for about three weeks. Lately, we have been changing the infusion set every two days in the evening. For a first night and day, after changing the set, his sugar is excellent, the next night and day, it gets worse, and, by a third day it is very high, even though his pump appears to be working. Why is this happening?

I’m a Pharmacist and was doing a continuing education program on new insulin delivery and technology. My husband is on a pump. The CE booklet had a section by Dr. Bruce Bode. In his last paragraph he said, “the best insulin for the pumps is insulin aspart” based on results of a study of his (Diabetes Care 2002; 25:439-444) in which symptomatic or confirmed hypoglycemia was reduced by 30% over insulin lispro and human insulin.”

I have a four year old with type 1 diabetes, and I am hopeful something new will be available by the time she is first grade. Is there any more information on the “closed loop” pumps? Also, is there anything else that might be as helpful to the daily care of diabetes that might be available soon?
