Emma Rose
From her mom, Maryellen:
My daughter Emma is truly my hero! She is a warrior and never lets T1 destroy her dreams even though it sure tries hard. She did not stop swimming competitively in high school despite T1 rearing its’ ugly head so many times. She was able to graduate 8th in her class of 169 kids—and securing almost $10,000 in outside scholarships as well. She heading on to Nursing school in Boston which is almost two hours from home. There were many many obstacles. Diabetes slowed her at times and tried to cause roadblocks to her BSN but she hurdled over them. She is an awesome high school nursing supervisor who watches over almost 500 scholars in her own school as she counsels other nurses to care for the students in their schools. Recently, she completed her Master in Public Health while working full-time and living the full and busy life of a young adult who lives alongside type 1 diabetes. I love her, applaud her, honor her, and know I could likely never be as strong as her. When I ask her how she does it — she will say “Mom, I want to live so I have no choice.” Striking but true. I always hope she some day she adds diabetes educator to her resume—- our family motto— you can and you will. When you fall and we all do —-it is surely the getting back up that counts the very most.
