I was a busy homeschooling mom of two when I became very sick very fast. I lost a lot of weight, was exhausted all the time and didn’t understand what was happening to my body. I assumed it was stress from homeschooling a special needs child and caring for a young toddler. It was not until two days before we were due to go on a family vacation when I realized it was not stress but a serious medical problem. I ended up at the doctor’s office only to find out my blood sugar was in the 600’s and I had an A1C of almost 15. My world came to a crashing mess. Being an adult I was told I had type 2 diabetes. After weeks of little to know change in blood sugar with medication, I did my own research and requested to have some specialized blood work done. It was at that point I found out my pancreas was not producing any insulin. I switched medical teams and began taking insulin. I responded quickly to the insulin and started to feel energy and hope for my future. Here I am 10 years later with now a third child, still homeschooling, on an insulin pump, living my best mom life possible. I will forever be grateful for Lilly and the medicine made available to me so I can live my life and raise my family. I am blessed.
