Diagnosis and Symptoms

My daughter was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, so we check my son’s blood sugar just to make sure. Every time we’ve checked, it’s been normal, but this morning, after a big breakfast, he complained of not feeling well so sister took his blood sugar, and it was low. Could his low blood sugar reading after having consumed a lot of sugar at breakfast have any meaning?

We have a family history of diabetes, and I’m concerned about my seven year old daughter who seems to have some symptoms. About six months ago (at her yearly exam), her doctor screened for tested her urine for diabetes which indicated no sign of the disease. I’m not reading anywhere of a procedure to screen for diabetes with a urine test. Should I have her screened with a fasting blood sugar?

My 11 year old granddaughter, who is thin and athletic, was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last week, but everything seems geared to type 1. It will be a while before the endocrinologist can see her. The dietitian said her diet is good and had no real suggestions for us. Could you tell me a source for finding out information about children with type 2 diabetes?

I’m 18, I think I may have diabetes and so do my parents. Because of this, they want me to see a doctor tomorrow to get a blood test. I don’t mind, but I’m on birth control, and my parents don’t know about this so I’m worried that my blood test will show up that I’m on birth control, and thus my parents will find out. Will the blood test show this, or would it just check for diabetes?

My 31 year old brother is currently being tested for diabetes and has to do regular blood sugar tests at home. He has been told to get in touch with the hospital if his reading is above 9 mmol/L [162 mg/dl], and when he did a sample test on me (age 34) my reading was 10.5 mmol/L [189 mg/dl]. However, I do not consider that I have any of the symptoms, despite being overweight. Should I be concerned?

I am the mother of a newly-diagnosed seven year old girl. Her blood sugar needs to be checked four times daily, followed by insulin injections. I can do this while I am at home, but there is a problem during school hours. I work during the day, and she is picked up after school by a retired couple who cannot do an injection. What I can do?
