My four year old son has CHARGE association. I read a few posts where you discussed the “dawn phenomenon”. Do you think I am right in asking his doctor to reconsider his assessment?

I had blood sugars of 32 mg/dl [1.8 mmol/L] and 41 mg/dl [2.3 mmol/L] on my grandmother’s meter, and she told me I should go to the doctor. What is a normal range? Should I be concerned?

My 13 year old son has just developed type 1 diabetes and is antibody positive. I have a friend who is 47. diagnosed at age 11, and who has required very low doses of insulin all her life. Are there cases which require very little insulin for years or which turn out to be MODY? Do any of the MODY classifications have antibodies in the blood?

A week ago, during a preemployment physical, I had glucose in my urine, and the doctor sent me to a clinic which would not see me because I did not have $30.00. I have had symptoms for some time that I just wrote off as getting old. After my physical I searched the net and found that all of my symptoms relate to diabetes. Now I am scared, and I do not know if a few weeks will cause more damage. Should I wait? Can I wait?

My two year old son drinks excessively and urinates within 10 minutes, soaking his diaper. He wakes during the night and drinks four to eight ounces of fluid. If I gave him more, he would probably drink that too. He has maintained his weight of about 33 pounds. He has suddenly started stuttering which really concerns me, because he was speaking clearly before. My mother had diabetes, but it is controlled by oral medication. Is there any way to check for diabetes before going to the doctor?

Recently I’ve been reading a lot on-line about people claiming to have “converted” from type 2 to type 1 diabetes, saying that because as their diabetes progressed they eventually required insulin, thus making them type 1. Doesn’t someone still have type 2 diabetes, even if they eventually become insulin-dependent?

About a year ago, my daughter started having urinary tract infections, one right after another. Two months ago, her urologist prescribed medication once a day for her, but this week she had another infection. No one can find out why she has these infections and blood sugars in the 200 mg/dl [11.1 mmol/L] range. Do you have any suggestions?

During a checkup at school, they found a black velvety ring on the back of my 10 year daughter’s neck, and they think she may be type 2 diabetes, but no one in family has it. Does someone in your family have to have type 2 diabetes in order for your child to get it? Are there any reasons out there for someone could get it?
