Two weeks ago, my four year old daughter had a blood sugar of 359 mg/dl [19.4 mmol/L] during a yearly pediatric visit, and was sent immediately to an endocrinologist with a diagnosis of diabetes. She has no other symptoms and was antibody negative. We’ve changed to a low carb/healthy diet and her blood sugars are reasonable without insulin. I read about a test of a protein called SHBG that can be done early in pregnancy which may predict who will develop preeclampsia. They also stated that that obese and women with diabetes women are especially at risk and that SHBG protein is associated with insulin resistance. Will this test be useful for doctors to routinely order?
