Two years ago I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, but after a bout with DKA that changed. When I left the hospital, my daily dose of insulin was 80 units (multiple daily injections), it is now down to 26 to 34 units a day, and my A1c has gone from 16.2 to 4.7%. Ten months ago, my 11 year old son was diagnosed with type 1 after exhibiting intermittent periods of excessive thirst and urination. He had a non-fasting blood glucose of 420 mg/dl [23.3 mmol/L], negative urine ketones, and I just recently found out that no antibody test was administered.
