My daughter has experienced a lot of changes in the last four months due to the onset of puberty. Our concern is the difficulty she is having with heavy frequent periods as well as difficulty sleeping. Should I inquire about thyroid issues, anemia or sleep studies? A friend has an 11 year old daughter who was diagnosed with diabetes 5 years ago. In the past two months, she has had difficulty with low blood sugar at night which has caused two seizures. Could puberty be causing any of these problems?

My son turned 14 in August and had grown only 3/4 of an inch in almost 2 years. His current height was 61 inches and weight was 112 pounds. We took him to a pediatric endocrinologist and blood work was done. One month later he went into DKA and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Given the high levels at the time he was diagnosed, shouldn’t his glucose have been elevated when the short stature evaluation was preformed a month earlier?
