My daughter complains of being tired, but has a problem sleeping and she said she starts shaking in midmorning. She prefers a high carbohydrate diet. Because we have family member with type 2 diabetes, I have checked some blood sugars 30 minutes after meals which have been 100-166 mg/dl [5.6-9.2 mmol/L] Is this abnormal?

A family member is very worried about her infant daughter developing type 1 diabetes. She has only breast fed her seven month old, and on the recommendation of her pediatrician, has avoided feeding cow’s milk formula because of a possible increased risk. Her baby doesn’t tolerate soy. My four year old son is in the pre-clinical stage of type 1 diabetes. see parents writing in asking about the likelihood of having another member of their immediate family (a child or sibling) develop diabetes, and I have seen your response that there is only a 2%-5% chance. I see so many situations in which type 1 is passed on that your numbers of 2%-5% shock me! Where are you getting your figures?

In my role as Welfare Officer for our local Multiple Sclerosis (MS) branch, I have had a call from the husband of a member who has chronic progressive MS, has recently been diagnosed with diabetes. Her treatment plan is difficult because she has care givers who visit to help with meals, etc., who visit only twice a day. Can let me know of any experience of diabetes and MS or can point me to a web resource?
