Diagnosed two weeks ago, my sister is now on NovoRapid and Lantus. Her blood sugars are around 4 mmol/L [72 mg/dl] to 8 mmol/L [144 mg/dl]. Is her dosing appropriate? Is there a cure for type 1?

With diet and exercise, I have relatively good control of my diabetes except for elevated fasting blood sugars. Would the use of long-acting insulin, such as Lantus, be beneficial? I am reluctant to use oral medications due to their side effects.
