I have type 2 diabetes, and take two different kinds of diabetes pills.. For the past four days, my morning blood sugars have been about 230 mg/dl [12.8 mmol/L]. I have had some stress in my life for the past week or so. Could this be the cause, or am I in some other trouble? When should I call my doctor?

My seven year old son has had type 1 for one year, and his blood glucose range from the 60s to 400s mg/dl [3.3-22.2mmol/L] with at least four insulin injections per day. I have read numerous positive things regarding the pump, but his “busy” doctors have not explained much and really do not give me a good reason why he should or should not be a candidate for the pump.

My three year son had a blood sugar of 180mg/dl [10 mmol/L]. Since then it is still in the 150s mg/dl [8.3 mmol/L]. He has never been checked before and he doesn’t have any symptoms, but diabetes runs both sides of the family. I am very concerned. Could a virus have brought this on?

My 10 year son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a month ago. He is honeymooning, requiring only between 5-8 total units per day and less on some days. Mild hypoglycemia has occurred off and on, and he frequently he runs too low for my liking. Has anyone ever tried the short acting oral agents in type 1 patients in the honeymoon? Can I make U-50 or U-25 insulin so I can more easily give half or quarter unit dose adjustments?

My fasting blood sugar is 174 mg/dl [9.7 mmol/L], and, within two hours after eating, it is 134 mg/dl [7.4 mmol/L]. This seems to be contrary to the normal readings. Is this in order? The laboratory staff say that this reading is in order, and this can happen. Is there any precedence? Are there any precautions to be taken?

I find I am increasingly ‘feeling down’ if my blood sugar is not between 4 and 10 mmol/L [72 and 180 mg/dl] because of the risk of long term side effects. Most are in the realms of normal, but I’ll often have a 12 or 14 mmol/L [216 to 252 mg/dl] every day or so, and I worry. Am I worrying unnecessarily?
