My mother’s family has an extensive family history of autoimmune diseases, and about six months ago, my two year old little girl was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Do you know of anyone interested in studying our family and the obvious genetic connection with us?

My six year old daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a year ago. Her A1cs have consistently been between 5.1 and 6.1%. She recently had protein in her urine and an elevated BUN/creatinine ratio, which her endocrinologist has never mentioned. Is this any indication of future kidney problems? Should I be concerned?

Our eight year-old son has had diabetes since the age of three. Would an injection of Humalog and NPH before his noon meal put him at risk for lows in the afternoon? I would be hesitant to load him up with more NPH at noon, fearful that it would be too much combined with the carryover effect of his morning NPH.

I am considering applying for a job in Pune, India. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in six months ago, and now have my blood sugar well under control with a combination of metformin, diet, and exercise. Would I be able to continue accessing the medication? Do you have any other advice for me regarding living in India with diabetes?

My new roommate has commented that I use the bathroom extraordinarily frequently. Having lived alone for years, I have had no basis of comparison, but I hadn’t noticed any sudden changes. I have read that excessive urination is a sign of diabetes. Could you please define excessive? How many symptoms should one have before getting a test?
