I have read extensively on rebound, the dawn phenomenon, and hyperglycemia in the morning. Nowhere can I find an answer to my question, which is whether these phenomena are continuous or sometimes intermittent. It is hard to understand how they could be intermittent, meaning from day to day and week to week.

My ten and one-half year old daughter has had type 1 diabetes for 14 months. Last winter, she developed a Brown’s syndrome in her eye, and her eye does not “track” with the other. Is the Brown’s related to type 1 diabetes? Will the large doses of ibuprofen interfere with her diabetes treatment?

For whatever reason, each time the set has been rotated my blood glucose starts to rise. Can you give me some direction to prevent this?

A 13 year old female who has had type 1 diabetes for three years is now refusing blood draws. She does her blood sugars at home, and they are in the 300 mg/dl [16.7 mmol/L] range. She refused to come to her last doctor’s appointment that specifically was to address the need for certain labs. Her mother came alone. Do you have any suggestions?

My five year old son was diagnosed with diabetes about four months ago. His body is still making some insulin. In fact, I have to continuously give extra carbohydrates to keep the blood sugars up. Is it possible something else could have raised his blood sugar and he really doesn’t need any insulin?

Can a physical trauma to a two and one-year old boy “set off” his diabetes? Can childhood diabetes be “set off” or is it something that develops over time? Might he have been born with a problem in his system that gradually caused his diabetes?
