My seven year old son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a year ago. Yesterday, he got the flu vaccination, and afterwards his blood sugars ran high. I am curious if the vaccine could have caused this.

My son’s insulins were both opened two and one-half and have been stored in the refrigerator, except to transport to another destination. His bedtime blood glucose readings have been quite high for the past five days or so and increasing his insulin has not worked. Could it be that we need a fresh vial of Humalog? Is two and one-half months a normal shelf life of Humalog?

I watch what I eat and exercise regularly. I have tried to lose weight by cutting back my insulin. However, my sugars are now extremely high, and I have only gained more weight. Is it possible that I have gained weight because my sugars are so out of control?

I have had type 1 diabetes for 15 years today and cannot say that I have taken extremely good care of myself for a few years. I am 29 now and am realizing the limitations of mortality, etc. Essentially, I want to see my children grow old and am worried. It sure pays to monitor I realize now. What can I expect my life expectancy to be at this rate?

I was diagnosed with diabetes nearly four years ago, at age 33. At the time, I was very overweight and my doctors assumed that I had type 2. After nine months of treatment with oral agents which did not work, I was put on insulin and classified as type 1. I have several questions.
