My nephew, who has an adopted mother, has been diagnosed with diabetes. The child is 6 years old and his mother weighs over 300 pounds and her mother was even heavier. Could this condition be something my mother-in-law did, or is it more than likely a family history matter?

My 16 year old son was diagnosed at 8 with Type 1 diabetes. He got through puberty so far without too many complications. Now he has had persistent nausea and vomiting and the doctors are suggesting gastroparesis. From what I can find, that is questionable.

Does a person with Type 1 diabetes always have sugar in their urine? My daughter, who has diabetes, had a routine urine test done and there was sugar but no ketones in the urine. Her last blood sugar was 196 about 1 hour prior to the urine test. She then had her shot and her dinner.
