My brother is hospitalized with a severe leg infection at his left ankle. He is 42 and has had Type 1 diabetes since he was 19. He is being told this seems to be a strep infection, but after a week of intravenous treatments, his ankle continues to be swollen and red. How typical is such an infection for diabetics, what is the course of this, prognosis, and treatment(s)?

Is that true? If so, how can I get more information about it and how to contact that doctor or similar doctors doing the same operations?

My son, currently 5 years old, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 1.5 years ago, when we were living in the U.S. Unfortunately I’ve got a family history of gluten intolerance also. Now I have learned from research publications that diabetes occasionally causes coeliac sprue. Couldn’t it be the other way around?
