Celebrating Storytellers: Stacey Simms
There are some amazing storytellers in the diabetes community, and many of those folks have spent years honing their craft through blogs, books, and videos. Their stories of life with diabetes bring our community closer. Sharing stories helps make the journey with diabetes less isolated and instead paved with hope and camaraderie. Spare a Rose is a campaign to help provide insulin, diabetes supplies, and education to children with type 1 diabetes in developing countries around the world. The idea is simple: buy one less rose on Valentine’s Day and donate the value of that rose to Life for a Child. One rose – $5 – can save a child for a month. A new specialty title, Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (DCES), was announced on January 22, 2020 and the AADE name changed to the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists. This reflects DCESs leadership position in diabetes care and education and more accurately describes all that DCESs do for people with diabetes. Eli Lilly and Company today announced plans to add two more cost-saving options to its suite of solutions for people who use Lilly insulin by introducing lower-priced versions of Humalog Mix75/25 KwikPen (insulin lispro protamine and insulin lispro injectable suspension 100 units/mL) and Humalog Junior KwikPen (insulin lispro injection 100 units/mL). The team at Novo Nordisk has been busy this month. Yesterday, their team sent out a press release announcing that the FDA has approved Fiasp insulin for the treatment of children with diabetes.
