Resolutions 2020
Marking the start of a new year usually has people thinking about the changes they’d like to make. Sometimes it’s a goal to lose weight, or start exercising. Other times, resolutions can include joining a reading club, or donating to more charities, or spending more time with friends and family. For people with diabetes, a list of new year’s resolutions almost always includes something diabetes-related. From investigating coverage for a continuous glucose monitor to resolving to change your lancet every. darn. time you check, diabetes provides the opportunity for plenty of progress. We talked with our CWD community on Twitter, […]
Read MoreCelebrating Siblings
When a family member is diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, that diagnosis affects the entire family. And for siblings of kids with diabetes, adjusting to life with diabetes in the family can have ups and downs that rival blood sugar graphs on the most rollercoaster days. At Children with Diabetes, we recognize how important the family support dynamic is for families living with diabetes, which is why we created our siblings programming at the Friends for Life conferences. We celebrate the siblings who are helping make the lives of people with diabetes better through their love and support by making sure […]

Read MoreWe Did It!
We did it! Your generosity and support helped Children with Diabetes hit our Giving Tuesday goal, raising enough money to unlock a $25,000 gift match from one of our Board members. We are humbled, grateful, and inspired, and we cannot say thank you enough. With this additional $50,000, our CWD team can bring Friends for Life conferences to more families, keep our community informed on the latest research and diabetes treatment technologies, and provide crucial diabetes care today, until there’s a cure tomorrow. If you would like to donate and support our organization, you still can! (And thank you!) Thank […]
Read MoreThankful for You
Thanksgiving is celebrated this Thursday in the United States. Soon, tables will be set with a Thanksgiving feast and families and friends will gather together. (And make sure you pre-bolus! Sorry … diabetes will also be joining us at the table; always smart to plan ahead.) We checked in with our CWD community to see what they’re thankful for this year: “Thankful for so many things, but this year, I’m especially thankful for diabetes advances/technology.” “I am thankful for you. Your website helped me through my son’s diagnosis 20 years ago and is now helping my son, his wife and […]
Read MoreDo you have glucagon at school?
There have been some major advancements in glucagon over the last year, and we’re encouraged to see more options for treating hypoglycemia on the horizon. With the availability of newer glucagon options, we’re interested in your experiences – if any – with glucagon use in your child’s school. This glucagon survey was created to find out more about how schools will react to training staff to administer the newer glucagon options. Take the survey! And if you have other feedback about glucagon administration in schools, please reach out to us.

At Friends for Life, people with diabetes wear green bracelets. Green threads together the people who are playing host to diabetes. Orange bracelets are given to folks who don’t have diabetes, but who are also affected by diabetes. Our community thrives when these groups are leaning on and supporting one another. Diabetes is something that families manage as a team, and the Children With Diabetes community knows the power of family support through and through. This week, we’ve had the opportunity to chat with Jeff and Brenda Hitchcock, and Laura Billetdeaux, about how diabetes has affected – and inspired – […]
Read MoreJoin the #CWDiabetesMonth Challenge!
It’s Diabetes Month (aka National Diabetes Awareness Month, or Diabetes Awareness Month), when society spends some time taking a peek into the life of people with diabetes. This is our chance to show people what diabetes is all about, from the treatments and tools we’re fighting to have access for, to the ways that food and exercise influence blood sugars, to the stigma and misconceptions consistently in play for our community. But for those of us living with diabetes, every month is diabetes month. We’re very aware. 🙂 We’re excited to see what the diabetes community brings to the awareness […]

Halloween is right around the corner, and we know what it’s like to navigate such a candy-heavy day with diabetes on board. So we connected with our Fiffles to see how they handle diabetes and the Halloween fun. From “switch witch” to saving for lows, here are some tips and tricks on “hacking Halloween” from our community: “We still go trick-or-treating, at the end she and her brother pick out 10 pieces of candy to keep. I save some for lows, and then the rest is left for the Tooth Fairy to collect. The Tooth Fairy takes the candy and […]
