Our 14 year daughter has had diabetes for a month and is on oral medication. She is missing school, saying she is not feeling well when it’s time for school, but she goes out and hangs with her friends on weekends. Could this be because of her diabetes?

I am 37 years old and I have diabetes. I was diagnosed over four years ago and started on shots then. Shortly thereafter, I lost 60 pounds and didn’t take anything any more for diabetes for almost a year and a half. I had a lot of stress and depression. Now, I weigh over 360 pounds and, my blood sugar stays high, I feel nauseous and tired, and I sense the first signs of neuropathy. I am becoming desperate.

I know a girl who just turned 18. She’s extremely underweight, she constantly has a water bottle in her hand, and she urinates so often it is unbelievable. She eats a lot, and always seems to be hungry, but never puts on any weight. She is also lazy a lot. She won’t go to the doctor. Does she have diabetes? If she does, how important is it for her to get some medical assistance?

He had a bout with croup three weeks ago, and since then, we’ve had tremendous difficulty keeping his blood sugars regulated. Are there orientation sessions for the pump? If so, how long do they last? Is it possible for the pump to be taught to a camp nurse in 20 minutes? Is a camper who is six years old and on the pump for only one month a safe day camp candidate?

My 11 year old daughter was diagnosed a year ago with type 1. She has not had good control. The nurse educator has upped her Regular and NPH, but the doctor is upset by the amount of insulin she is taking, thinking that I’m changing the doses on my own. Insulin changes are not working.
