My five year old son seems unusually reactive to food, especially carbohydrates. He can become very agitated, cries, and is difficult to console. If I can get him to eat something, he seems to recover almost immediately. I wonder if he has some sort of condition that needs to be addressed.

I have had two toe amputations in the last year and a half, I suffer from severe neuropathy, and I have recently been diagnosed with Charcot Joint Disease. My five year old has had type 1 diabetes for three years. My five year old has had type 1 diabetes for three years. He had a bout with croup three weeks ago, and since then, we’ve had tremendous difficulty keeping his blood sugars regulated. Is it unusual for children to experience these kinds of swings following illnesses?

My five-year-old son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a year ago, and we’ve been adjusting quite well since then. However, for the last couple of months I have been noticing some definite compulsive behavior in my son. My husband and I both wonder if in spite of the positive attitude and courage our son has shown, this compulsive behavior might be diabetes-related.

When I arrive home at night, her sugar is always 400-500 mg/dl (22.2 -27.8 mmol/L). I have tried giving her more NPH insulin, but she gets a low reaction, and, now that summer is here, she will get more exercise. I need to know what to do.

My 10 year old son was diagnosed about 10 months ago. After returning from a wonderful three week summer camp program, his numbers have spiralled higher and higher, and our team has suggested more and more insulin in response. He has been suffering from Coxsackie virus. Is it normal for the honeymoon to come to such an abrupt halt? Could the Coxsackie virus have had this much impact?
