In your responses to chromium use in type 1 diabetes, you don’t recommend usage. Why is it okay for type 2 and not for type 1 just because research studies haven’t been performed?

Our 15 year old son has type 1 diabetes. He uses marijuana (without our consent). His average blood sugar readings have been running about 325 mg/dl [18.1 mmol/L] for more than six months. He has been seeing a psychologist and other doctors, but little is helping. Do you have any suggestions of where we can send him to get help?

My nine year old niece has had type 1 for nine months. It seems to us she has to eat an incredible amount of food. She even complains. Is it normal for all children with diabetes to have to eat a lot?

On a routine urinalysis, our son had glucose and ketones in his urine. He also had glucose on one other ocassion. His random blood sugar and hemoglobin A1c are normal, and he shows no other diabetes symptoms. Should he be checked by an endocrinologist?

My 16 year old daughter has had diabetes for four years. For the last seven months, she has been hospitalized numerous times. She has lost weight, but gains it back when hospitalized. They say her only option at this point would be a pump, but she is resitant.

My nine year old son has an odor that I can only associate with ketoacidosis. He becomes diaphoretic, nauseous and weak, when he has not eaten in several hours. I’m baffled and concerned.
