I am a school nurse, and I have a kindergarten student with type 1 for two schools. His blood sugar is very hard to control, and his doctor states he cannot be left alone at any time. The superintendent of the school has agreed to have an aid in the class for four hours a day and says that, when I come to work at lunch time, I should go and check on him every 15-20 minutes.

Our 11 year old son was diagnosed with type 1 five months ago. Over the next two months, his readings became less and less, so we gave less and less insulin. We took him off insulin and he remained with excellent readings However, during the past two weeks, his readings have increased a little. Should we be concerned about these few ‘higher’ readings? Should he go back on insulin?

She also eats all the time, but she gains very little weight. My father has diabetes. Do you think I should have her screened for diabetes?

My eight year old son was diagnosed at age two and one-half. His blood sugar is in fairly good control, but there are days when it bounces in a matter of four hours. We follow his diet and insulin regimen very carefully, adjusting when necessary, but these unexplained crazy days really have us baffled.

My five year old daughter has had diabetes for almost a year. They increased her food and insulin. However, she started dipping down so low that she had her first low blood sugar reaction. I was scared, so I stepped her insulin dose down. Now she is taking less insulin than before the carb increase. Why is that? How can I watch her better at night?
