My ten year old son is having low blood sugars. He does not have diabetes. His endocrinologist has prescribed medication. I am hesitant to start medication without further for a reason as to why his blood sugar is low. Am I overly worried about the medication?

My child had type 1 diabetes which developed during his third year. In many cases, although he has eaten much food containing much quantity of sugar and his psychological state is very good, the rate of the sugar lowers.

I am 14 and have a few questions about the insulin pump. I have heard that the insulin pump cause you to gain weight. Is this true, and if so why does it happen? Also, does it cause you to get scar tissue? Are there any other sites besides the stomach the that pump can be injected?

When your sugar level is low, you should eat a piece of candy or something sweet, right? So what do you do when your sugar is a little high? My mother is not on any medication for diabetes yet, but some of the other medications she takes periodically makes her sugar level a little higher.

I have experienced pain in my shoulder joints, which seems to radiate down my arm. The pain is worse at night, and feels almost to be in the bones. My endocrinologist said it may be soft tissue damage from glucose deposits. Could you explain, advise re minimizing/treating pain?

Over the past four years, my eight year old daughter has been gaining weight at a pretty rapid rate. I am concerned that type 2 diabetes or insulin resistance may be a problem. The pediatrician says if she does not have thirst, frequent urination, etc., she does not have diabetes. Do you think I should pursue a work-up for type 2? If so, what all should this include in a child?
